Students with learning needs
I have students with learning disabilities are some of my best students. When they tell me about their learning disability I make the effort to afford them what they need to be successful. I find they are also willing to help other students in the same situation.
I find that, just as with any student, praise for any accomplishments small or large, can go a long way to and encourage motivate disabled students.
Rosa,
so well put & so true. We are there to help our students succeed. We don't reduce expectations or lower standards, but we find ways to help them achieve.

I have worked with 2 students with different types of disabilities. One had a small deformity with her hand and I worked with her every Friday to be able to give injections or draw blood with minimal use of her slightly deformed hand and the other I would read the test questions one by one and he would always get a passing grade. Being instructor is a lot more than just presenting and teaching information to our students. Often times we are their biggest cheerleaders.
I haven't yet had to work too closely with the students I know have disabilities. None of my students so far have ever identified themselves as having a learning disability. I am aware of a student i will have in the future who does have some significant disabilities, but from what I have heard from other instructors, this student has been very successful. I am looking forward to working with this student so I can learn from them as to how best to help them.
Robert,
yes, many of these students have learned how to apply themselves & how to study & so often they excel.
