Listen
When I take the time to listen to my students with dissabilities it make all the difference.
Martin,
and then when they are really struggling they are more likely to seek our help.

Yes, this one-on-one contact helps form the sort of student-teacher relationships that can help inspire students to succeed in any given course,.
tracy,
listening is such a vital & important skill to helping all of our students.
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
i agree with you john. when you listen to them it helps you to understand them more and makes you realize that these students are humans too. it just takes them a little bit longer to get the concept of the lecture but once they do they are all over answering questions and showing the instructor what they learned.
Listening is more difficult for those of us who are more comforatable with lecturing. Listening to those with disabilites is more important and takes more patience.
JOE,
I completely agree with you on this. When we take the time to listen to our students & show that we care we have a much greater opportunity to influence them for success.

Listening in my opinion is about the most powerful tool a person can use to be able to comunicate to a student that you are there to help them. and it also shows that compassion for a student as well as passion for the course goes hand and hand for his sucsess.
John,
I do believe that demonstration of willingness to help them & listen to them greatly helps in encouraging them to seek further help from us.
