Dyslexia

With learning disability student more time spend which help the student to be successfully in life.

A dyslexic adult student finds the acquisition of these career skills difficult, can also suffer a lot of anguish and trauma when they may feel left out by their peers within the college environment, because they have a learning difficulty. We, as instructors, can do a lot to alleviate this by integrating the learner into the class environment (which is predominantly a learning environment) where he/she can feel comfortable and develop confidence and self-esteem and can handle the learning of new skills.
The following items should provide useful guidelines for instructors to follow and support:
• Of value to all students in the class is an outline of what is going to be taught in the lesson, ending the lesson with a summary of what has been taught. In this way information is more likely to go from short term memory to long term memory.
• When assignments are set, it is important to check that the dyslexic students correctly writes down exactly what is required. Try to ensure that the appropriate worksheets and books are selected.
• In the front of the homework write down your telephone, and email. Then, if there is any doubt over homework, (s)he can ring up and check, rather than worry or spend time doing the wrong work.

Good Morning,

This is a topic I am very familiar with and that is because I have it. The student who has dyslexia can problem solve outside the box more often than not; that is because this is what they had to do all of their life. I know from experience that the more complex the issue or task the easier it was to complete. It may take a few different ways to explain the task but when they get it the lights come on and wow.

Rebecca Boghich

I share my story of having dyslexia and how works for me and my career.

Stephanie,
this is great as we need to make sure that these students feel they are part of the class & are not being isolated at all.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Students who have presented to my class, especially students with dyslexia, I have incorporated learning strategies that are not only beneficial to the student with special needs but to the entire class. I try to incorporated the instruction so the student with the challenge has the feeling of inclusiveness.

Suhad,
yes, we definitely need to be focusing our attention on these students.
