Extrapolation Questions

Please share an extrapolation question for one of the courses you are currently teaching.

A client presents with limited ability to flex their right elbow. What are some possible causes from a muscular perspective and causes from a neural perspective and why.

Richard,

How long are you prolonging it? Just give a reasonable time rather than move on immediately, then use probing or rephrasing to help guide the student.

Judy Mohammed

It is very hard for me as an instructor on prolonging the wait time.

Rocklan,

Great! Wait time is not so easy to use in the beginning, but, once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier.

Judy Mohammed

I am always using questions, I will also at times ask a question totally off the subject to keep the class involved. I have been in moods at times that when writing notes to write them backwards, I haven't perfected my ability to write upside down yet. Thru this course, the most important thing that I have become aware of is waiting the 2-3 seconds for the answer. I count before I ask the question the second time and I don't answer my question as often as I use to. Thank you

Rocklan,

Great idea! Do you use questioning a lot in your classes?

Judy Mohammed

Class, from the basic troubleshooting symptoms that we have discussed concerning Diesel exhaust smoke colors, what engine problems can be identified without test equipment by seeing White, Black, Blue or Gray smoke coming from the Exhaust pipe of this diesel engine?
I will use this question and reinforce their answers by writing them on the white board so they have another chance to write them into their notes.

Michael,

This is certainly an interesting question that I might like to know the answer to.

Judy Mohammed

If a bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis evades digestion in a phagocyte, and continues to survive and proliferate, what will eventually happen to the phagocytic cell? What will eventually happen to the host/patient?

Stephen,

These are great questions that encourage critical thinking since they can also awaken new questions.

Judy Mohammed

In my math classes we study graphs, probability and statistics all in one chapter.

I could ask for a prediction in a line graph about what might happen in the future. For example, we compare populations of continents from 1950 to 2000 and South America was the smallest in 1950, but now it's North America. Will North America still be the smallest in 2050?

Jacqueline,

This is a good example. Is this a question you use in class?

Judy Mohammed

Given the information how would you describe the effect of HIV on Tcells

RAJINI,

Which kinds of questions do you use?

Judy Mohammed

Yes I do during the clinicals.

RAJINI,

Good example. Do you use this question class?

Judy Mohammed

As you have learned this procedure and demonstrated well, now could you please be able to give reasons, why and how this procedure can benefit this patient?

Jason,

Good example. Do you use this question in class?
Judy Mohammed

If you are using a Studer 24 Track Tape machine with 497 2" tape at 15 ips for 6 hours a day every day while recording an album, when will the FIRST demagnetization of the tape heads need to occur?
