I agree, during lectures I ask questions to have students share there personal experience with the subject matter and I'll impart my own experiences to give students a real grasp of the subject matter.

I certainly agree with you. Students come in with very rich and diverse experiences. Teachers are often surprised by the additions students bring to the class.

I like to ask similiar questions to duifferent students but require a different answer to be correct. This allows me to understand if the students really understand the information or they are relying on others for too much support.
I also question the students in respect to the material to get their feedback. I find that some students ask very intelligent questions and offer comments including senarios that they have encountered. This gives more credibility to the lesson.

I totally agree with Frank, I also ask many question to gain what they comprended of the given course material and to give praise where praise is due.
I keep the students involved in the presentation,and ask them question after,to determine their understanding of the material.
