REDIRECTION/PROBING
Redirection and probing are two of the tools i us in my classroom and i find that the students tends to like that approach.
Judy,
I also struggled with trying to cover everything I need to cover. I learned something, though; I learned to evaluate my material and identify the parts that must be covered rather than my trying to cover everything. That opened up some time for discussion.

I find that it is difficult to find time to cover all the material in class that we are required to cover. I have witnessed the students "coming alive" once discussions begin. I am excited about trying some of the points I have learned in this course. I need to incorporate some open questions into my lectures.
Robert,
At one point, my lectures were packed with information that I thought I had to deleiver to my students and I hurried through it just to ensure that I got all of it to them. After attending several workshops and courses, I realised that my way was not probably the best way. I stopped talking as much and gave time for discussions and interactions for the students, while providing the main points. The students seemed to enjoy this more and the classes came alive.

I use this technique often, although some times students would rather wait for the "correct" answer from me. However, I believe that it works more than it does not, and is worth it in the long run.
Alphia,
I agree that probing and redirecting are excellent techniques to use in classes.

Yes , i find redirection and probing my greatest tool to help evaluating the students understanding of a particular subject.Sometimes they will say yes, "i understand" but when ask to explain what they understand they are unablle to do so.
Georgia,
Students appreciate this and it also makes for a more interactive and interesting class.
