Most beneficial questions for learning
What type of questions do you think would aid you most in learning.
Kimberly,
This is true. Questioning is my most important tool in teaching.

A combination of open, closed, and procedural questions are useful in a classroom. Open questions provide more insight to gage student's learning. Closed questions provide instructors with information on how well the students are listening and/or being attentive. Procedural questions allow for more explanation for students who may need further elaboration of the topic.
Kevin,
This is true. In addition to making the classes more interactive, open questions also allow teachers to judge how the material is being absorbed.

All forms of questionsing are good, however, open ended questions provide more benefits. By asking these, you get a better feel for the comprehension of material by students. Also, students want to know how material benefits them, they don't get that same feeling from simple memorization questions.
Diane,
Questioning on the whole encourage critical thinking and I use diverse types of questions in class. I prefer open-ended questions since students open up more and I can check their undestanding of the lesson. I plan my questions into the lectures and use appropriate ones for the specific parts. I try to include interpretation and application questions, which give a sense of real world experiences and students appreciate these.
