changing question types

I have had good success changing the question type and mixing it up. Different style learners have different style questions they relate to more effectively. I try to make sure that one question leads into another smoothly, even though the type of question changes. I would like to be better at this, and I know this course will help improve my skills in this area of class delivery.

Joanne,

If you have a lab class, you can ask open questions during demonstrations; this helps with review as well as it gives you feedback on what the students have learned.

I don't do a lot of classroom. And I've always leaned heavily on closed questions partly because I want to make sure the students know the correct information. But this unit has made me think about how to use more open question. I need to adjust my thinking to increase the percentage of application type of open question. I didn't really think about the intimidation factor when students are asked a single closed question. Application questions can open it up to more with less intimidation since multiple answers can feed into the final answer.

Georgia,

This is a good technique to give more time for the student to gather thoughts.

Donald,

This course and more practice will help you to improve. I plan my questions into my lessons initially.

I find that rewording the question,if not answered properly or if the answer is incomplete, tends to draw other students into answering the question. It also allows that student to pause to interpret the question for a better answer.
