Closed Questions to Begin a Literature Course
I am an English instructor and when I teach literature courses I often begin the class by asking students to provide some basic information about the text that we are scheduled to discuss that day. For example, if my class is set to talk about a short story, I will ask who the characters are and where the story is set. Would these be considered "closed questions"?
These questions would be considered closed questions because they require the student to recall information from what they should have read earlier. It can be turned into an open question by asking the student to explain or make inferences about the characters or the setup of the story.
