safety in Hydralics
I teach a class on Hydraulics, one of the most dangerous fields to be in. I find that going over the safety requirements every day before we go to class is crucial for a safer lab experience. I have a zero tolerance when it comes to safety just as it is in the work place. They must understand the importance of safety. For example, if not wearing safety glasses that student is literally fired for the day, sent home to thing about the danger he put themselves in. You must teach it but you must also enforce it
I have the same feelings about safety Hutch I see students doing things that scare me to death and standing hard on safety is the only cource of action that should be adheired to throughout their education.Being taught to do things the safe way is an investment in ther future.
wayne,
Thank you for your post. The importance of safety has been a very important theme in the posts.

I could'nt agree more. Reminding students as much as possible of safe practices and the hazards we work around is paramount to creating a good technician. Enforcing the standards once you present them is also critical to their success. The safety habbits they develop here are more likely to carry on with them in their careers. I think your zero tolerance policy on this is awesome because safety should be taken seriously and furthermore it really hits home when there is a sever consequence for putting yourself and or others in danger.
