I have to remind myself from time to time that my students are not me, and they don't necessarily share my preferred learning style.
Susan,
Thanks you for sharing your outcomes from using different approaches to target the different intelligences of your students.

It is diffixcult to understand and teacvh mu;ltiple inteligences but if you take time AND EFFORT IT can be done
It is going to allow me to have a greater understanding to each individual and therefore give me the tools I will need to make each individual learning experience good and positive for all involved.
David,
Good for you. Students like variety and change of pace in instructional delivery and you are offering both with your approach. I know your students appreciate your planning efforts as you share your content with them.

I always use mutiple ways of introducing new information, book review/ppt's (with pictures),videos, hands on component identification (in class props if you will), as well as in shop and practical application.
Edward,
I like the way you are appealing to the different learning preferences and strengths of your students. This way they can find success in different sections of the course while still moving forward toward their career goal.

The way the class I teach is set up it's roughly 60/40 points wise classroom/kitchen. I tell students that some people struggle with the written section and I get that, and some struggle with the hands on. There is enough balance that one can play to their strong suits and focus on where they may struggle in order to be successful.
Deb,
You are using a variety of "best practices" in your approach. Students like change of pace and activities that let them make applications of what they have just learned. The more opportunities like this you offer them the greater their content retention is going to be. Keep up the good work that you are doing through your instructional delivery.

It is important to understand that individuals process information differently. Therefore we need to use different methods in an effort to make the information as accessible to as many students as possible. Relying strictly on one delivery method(example: straight lecture) is going to appeal to some students, but leave a large portion of the class lost or frustrated. Personally, if information is only presented orally, I quickly lose attention and become lost.
As much as possible I try to incorporate tell, show, and do:
-I tell students about a topic (incorporating analogies where I can),
-show visuals that apply (an outline, a demonstration, work out sample problems, etc),
-give students the opportunity to practice.
Mitchell,
The more you get to know about your students the more accurately you will be able to target your instruction. In addition, the more you know about your students the more you will get to enjoy your relationships with them and this is one of the rewards of teaching.

I realize that all too often I focus on my responsibility to convey material to my students, and measure my success "Did I get through the material?" rather than learning all I can about my students, especially about how they learn most effectively.
Bryce,
Learning can be fun if it is structured in such a way that the students can see the value of what they are learning and are given opportunities to apply their new knowledge.

Agreed but also using other things as teaching tools, the most importatnt I've found is making the learning experience fun that way they want to learn as their motivation!
Understanding multiple intelligence will help the instructor to vary methods of delivery that will help maximize learning for all students.
Patricia,
Being creative is one of the fun parts of being an educator because we get to come up with new and different ways of helping our students learn. These creative activities help us to stay interested and thus not become bored with teaching the same classes over and over again.

Robert,
I am sure because your field is tactile in base. Coming from the construction technology field my students learn best through visuals and hands on as well.

By stepping outside the. Box and be creative and new in your teaching methods
with teaching adult auotmotive students visual and hands-on with short lectures seem to work the best.
Dr. Richard,
Good strategy to follow because the other components of intelligence useage are important utilized if the students are going to develop themselves completely. Your field deals so much with the interpersonal and emotional part of human interaction.
