My understanding of multiple intelligences will give me a broader idea of how to plan my lectures and labs. I will try to incorporate a little bit of each learning style and intelligence.
I stay on my feet while lecturing. I find I can think quicker, and I show the students a higher level of energy and enthusiasm for the subject.
I am fairly new to teaching, and am learning how to teach to differant learners. Some of the best instructors I have had, have always taught the same material multiple ways. I learn something new each day on how to better instruct my students.
I have found that in the situation where I teach I really have two students in the classroom. Ones who want it all; lecture, demo's, and practicals. and then the ones who just want to see it and do it. I like to really connect with both by making sure to encompass their needs.
Marjorie,
I wish you continued teaching success. You are targeting in on the key elements of learning for your students and how they can be successfully engaged in the course content.

I liked the part that explains how to used the MI because just knowing what they are is not enough. I think it is difficult to try to plan your lesson based on what your students main learning style is-if it is not aligned with your own learning style. We are always changing books and I find it difficult to keep up with the new book and try to adapt to a new teaching modality that is not my own. I also find that if I teach out side my comfort zone my students think I don't know my material.
Monika,
I am excited for your next class and how you integrate variety into your instructional process. I wish you continued teaching success and great feedback from your students.

It is very easy to assume that everyone learns the way that I do and so simple to teach to my learning style. I now see that I need to include all the learning styles and make sure that my students know how they process information and are having their learning prefference taught to. Thank you.
Thomas,
I use this same format with great results. The mixing of the generations really help each group to see the value that the other group can bring to the learning situation. As a result they develop respect for each other and the contributions that are being made by everyone.

I have a mixture of younger and older students in my class,I try to have groups of older and younger together so that they can learn from each others learning intelligences since no two are alike, the students adapt to this very well learning from each other.
Based on what I have learned on this topic, I will be reviewing my lesson/instructional plans to see how I can incorporte these different styles of learning / processing information.
I know that I can create a better learning experience for students by doing this. I often leave out music which would be easy to incorporate.
Knowing better how people process the information has introduced me to the idea of teaching more than one topic at a time. Not necessarily two technical topics but one technical topic and a soft skill. As long as the two subjects are identified and explained at the end of the lesson we can know teach the students more than one thing at a time and then once it has happened and the student is exposed to it they have a hugely positive response to having done something without even trying that they likely never thought they could succeed at.
Sandra,
Good for you. Students need a change of pace and variety in learning if they are going to stay engaged throughout the class.

I use many techniques of instruction to teach the different MI. I try to use 3 different techniques with each class period.
You must bring the right tool for the job. You can build something without powertools but using those powertools will allow you to get the job done faster and more efficiently.
By understanding that there are multiple intelligences, teachers can alter their lesson plans and teaching styles to best meet the needs of these students. For instance, if a majority of their class have the traits for interpersonal intelligence, it would benefit students to work in small groups to complete assignments.
When altering your teaching style you also have to make sure that other intelligence areas are not excluded. This means that breaking the students into groups will help interpersonal intelligence and having the group work on putting together projects will help students with traits for kinesthetic intelligence. By combining students with different intelligence traits, teachers can also help promote students learning from each other. This will help students adapt to different intelligence styles.
Tim,
This is not uncommon. My students are much like yours as well. They want to get involved and doing something where they can make application of the things they are learning. Good point about engaging these learners.

I find only a small percentage of my students gain much from written material. Most all respond best to a combination of visual/kinesthetic learning.
I try to use as many different ways to get the student to leanr including helping me as i set up for class.Including assisting me in class when there are opportunities!!
Khalid,
Good way to keep everyone involved and moving forward in the course.

In each class i taught i had multiple intelligence this is why when ever i discuss any section of the topics i usually ask the least intelligent students if they understand what i have discuss if they say yes i ask them to repeat what i discussed if they say no then i repeat what i had discussed.
