brain assessemt
I use a simple brain assessment instrument that allows students to determine if they are right or left brain. Students are so amazed that they are visual or auditory learners. It really helps to understand what style of learner the students favor.
I have used that before with my students and it is fun to see how they use there critical thinking skills
I agree with this method. This also allows for us as instructors to lean one way or another when teaching these students. If I know that a group of students are very visual then I can focus my teaching on that type of demo.
I have not used these assessments, but plan to. It would definitely speed up planning the way I will present the course material to meet the needs of the students and it will help the students to know how they learn best.
Kathy,
It is fun when you help students learn a little more about themselves. In addition, as you say you have an idea of the different learning preferences you have in the class. This will help you with your instructional planning.

I have also given these assessments and find them extremely helpful. I give them at the beginning of a new mod (we teach in 10 week mods). The students always find it interesting to asses their learning styles. They help me, as an instructor incorporate different learning modalities when instructing.
Steve,
I like assessments like this because they give you the instructor an idea of the students you have and what their learning preferences are but also they give insight into the learning process for the students themselves. This is a win win situation for all.
