Adults students.

I agree 100% about the difference between teenagers a adults students.
I do not about you, but at some places the very opposite happens, this students are subject to more rules and regulations than in a high school...
Rules are important, too many of them is dangerous.

Maybe I have missed something.. Any comments??

My student are all adults, however some of them complain about the workload! I think it's more of the younger student than the older ones. So, I totally agree with you.

Marilyn,
Something I encounter on a regular basis as well. I try to use my older students to reinforce the "whys" of what we do because they have the life experiences that have shown them why the "whys" are necessary.

your statement is so true. The older students seem to accept that there are rules to follow in class and the younger students seem to rebell against some of the rules.

Larry,
They also help with self discipline as students will need such when they enter the work world.

Rules are ment to structure the student for the future. Rules for the work place are definatley neccesary, but so are rules for society and family. Rules have to encompass the whole picture to make a person a success, reguardless of how many rules have to be obeyed.

I agree that it is important to have rules and as long as they are consistent it will work no matter how many. I know teens can take in more information sometimes faster than an older adult learner so it is very important to teach for different learners in class everyday so everyone can understand.

Marsha,
Right you are about students understanding why things are taught as they are. In medicine they have to follow the protocols for both legal and safety reasons. Knowing that helps the students see the value of learning the correct sequence and then follow it.

I think it varies with the program of study. For medical students, regimen is important, following protocol is essential, but it is necessary to convey the reason for doing things in a particular manner. I find with adults, if you make it relevant, give the reason why, they are more apt to comply.

Patricia,
Rules need to be based upon the standards of the field(s) they are training to enter. This way they will be prepared when they enter the work world. To have a lot of rules that are not based upon any standards is to ask for trouble. The class management rules should be set up to maintain a supportive learning environment for every student and not be excessive but supportive.
