Graphic Organization
I like this more than most will think. Graphic organization works very well for me and some of my students. When I take notes I do so in picture form. People say a picture is worth a 1000 words, they are correct. I encourage my students who like to doodle to draw what I lecture about. It is “AMAZING†what the students come up with for notes. I encourage an open mind too.
I did not think of doodles? I was thinking more linear like a dichotomas key or protocol flow chart. I realized that I used to doodle, write outlines and rewrote my notes when I was in college. They were my learning/studying strategies. I need to pass the doodling to my students.
I learned by my training that doodling is a learning process. I now encourage this and relize some students learn better this way
Richard,
Good use of "doodles" as reinforcing methods for students. They are engaging different senses and motor skills to create an image of what is being taught as a concept. This greatly enhances content retention.
