Overcoming additudes of the older student

Hi Cheryl,
What I do is to get to know the student better and then see where I can use their life and work experiences in the class. Generally, I find that I can have them do a special project that they can share with the class. This lets them use their previous experience which helps them to feel more comfortable when I ask them to take on a task that is outside of their comfort zone. By them knowing I respect their knowledge and experience they are more willing to add to that knowledge by learning a new procedure or content base.
