understanding the student needs
Understanding the student needs is important to keep an enviroment that is productive to their learning behaviors
I run a 10 week class and if the student skips class I need to know from them why, so I can work with them on figuring out how they are going to do the work and pass the class.
Yes, i agree that it is difficult to access the learning needs of every student. While most are hands on learners, some require more personalized instruction, such as visual aids,or instructor demonstrations.
In my writing classes, early assignments focus on having the students write about themselves and role of writing in their lives. Students also share their background; this helps me understand their situations and needs.
I constantly have to reassure students as to why something is being assigned, or how a particular aspect of the class will be of benefit to them in the work place. I keep atune to the newspapers, Advisory Board members we utilize in various program areas, and comments from speakers and/or students in the work place. More often than not, the students tend to validate what I state in class. At other times, students will indicate a different experience result relating to a scenerio in one of their current or former work places. I feel that this keeps the students engaged, that the students feel that they have something of value to contribute, and other students as well as the teacher tends to continue to learn.
I try to spend the first day of class trying to get to know my students and for them to get to know each other. This helps me assess the best way to meet their needs.
True. Understanding their needs is critical. There are several techniques we can use to achieve this. The key factor is communication to the students. Observation works as well, but cannot be relied upon as the sole method.
Every individual have different learning styles and behavior. It is very important for us instructor to understand each idividual learning styles so that we can assist them in their needs for them confidently achieve their ultimate goal.
As a Instructor for nearly 5 years I have learned through CEE and experience that each student does have different needs towards learning styles it is sometimes a challange to ssek out there learning styles so they all understand the course material.
