Managing difficult employees in the real world
What are the alternatives to firing uncoperative/disruptive employees.
Hi Joan,
Good point about soft skills. They need to be a part of the educational process. Research has shown that 90% of positions are lost as a result of not having appropriate soft skills. The more training we can do in this area the better our students will be prepared for success.

What about finding out why the issue occurs. It is difficult to mend a problem, if you arent' sure what the problem is. You can try to address these issues, create an individual plan for the employee (what they need to do to improve and keep their job).
Many times people don't understand the importance of soft skills. Is there a training they can be sent to help them evaluate their soft skills and how it is affecting their job and how to improve? It could be they dont' even realize what a problem or how disruptive they are.
Hi Erica,
This type of workplace is also very stressful so everyone needs to do what they can to keep the environment positive.

There is no place for uncooperative/disruptive employees in education. We are supposed to modeling behaviors for our students for their work in the real world. It is unprofessional to act this way and disrupts the students learning. I don't see any alternatives.
Hi Brad,
Not sure of the question in terms of referring to what type of employees. Instructors, general workers, who?
If you can give some additional details I will be glad to share my perspective with you.
