Students learning characteristics

i tend to use a few different ways to teach topics in the first few days of class and then ask the students as a whole which way helps them learn best.

Hi Leslie,
Well put. Sometimes it seems we are much like parents correcting our children, even though our students are adults. So we constantly look for ways to reach each student in a way that enables them to be successful while developing behaviors that are appropriate for the classroom.

Yes, the range of learning abilities is huge, and I need to be an actor of sorts to deliver messages in many ways until I see the light bulb go off.

There are the semi angry anxious child like behaviors that students act out because deep down they are afraid and want attention.

I do my own. I have to see what works best for the students. Of course you always have that one that never catches up. You just have to pay specail attention to them.

Hi Mary,
I am sure your quizzes are very interesting due to the field you are quizzing the students over. I am sure they really enjoy being able to share their knowledge of trivia while also learning through the game aspects of the quizzes.
Gary

I use trivia quizzes to learn strengths about students. It demonstrates areas of interest.

That sounds like a viable strategy. However, I like to make the assessment of what works best through my classroom observations and assessment. When you learn what you don't know, then you know what you need to learn. So then, it stands to reason, that when you learn how a student learns best, then you know what learning strategies to engage. In my view, knowledge of results is important, but an experienced, trained teacher is best equipped to make that assessment.
