Mixing the old with the new

the art of learning is needed with todays tech. we must teach our younger genaration the art of our skill's for a better tomorrow.

Hi David,
I have found this as well. I enjoy having older students in the class because I can use them as resources which helps the younger students while building the confidence of the adult students.

I find that withought regard to skill leval, adult learners are normally a stabalizing element in a class. They provide a level of maturity to the class and act as mentors.

I really agree with this. I like to not judge until about a week and take the time to ask them questions on their level of ability.

Hi D.A.,
Good advice for all of us instructors. Get to know the students. They will quickly show you what approaches are most effective with them without having to make any judgments, which may or may not be accurate.
Gary

Not all older students are held back from the new technology. For some they were in on the ground floor of computers and find being treated like a inept person frustrating. Know you students and don't let their age dictate how you lead them.

Absolutely! Specifically if they are attempting online courses--this is where the younger students have an advanced skill base and older students need more training/hand holding.

When looking at today's technology, we must also understand that often times older students feel at a disadvantage to younger students.
