ED102 Student Retention

I was able to gain alot of strategies in teaching the adult learners. I keep their attention focused on what we need to learn today (day by day)... Tomorrow is a new day with more and better topics.

LaShonda,
This is the human factor in being an instructor and you are demonstrating it with your approach. Knowing you care about them as individuals and their success in the course is so important for students, especially those that have life challenges to over come in order to remain students.

As an instructor, I like to reassure my students on the first day of class that I am their biggest cheerleader and I believe in them. I use encouraging words to empower them to believe in themselves. I also stress to my students that success for me is knowing that I pushed them into their success.

My rentention rate is usually high becuse no matter what happens with their performance in or out of class they know I care about them.

Hello Paul,

I agree with this as well. It is important to focus on that day. The adult learner has some much on the outside that could impact they learning in the classroom. Keeping their attention will help them to "be in the now."

Possibly because they were born in to the age of quick information, many of my young students seek immediate feedback. By coupling timely responses and support with Paul's day-to-day strategy, the less secure students seem to be motivated, and stay on board.

Paul,
Good way to keep students engaged and forward focused. This is so important in order for them to see the reasons why they are in school and working as hard as they are.
