Charging your Batteries
Dr. Covey calls it "Sharpining the Saw." See if your objectives are still really your objectives and that you are committed to reaching them. Look forward and "Keep the end in mind."
Point taken. Never thought of making this a mid-stream activity, my tendency is usually at the end of class. Thanks for the idea!
I like this suggestion. A few "no"s and i need to do some SERIOUS reevaluation
I usually end each day asking my students if they have learned something new. If they think they can use this in the field and 9 times out of 10 they all say yes. Thats a very positive statment and keeps me coming to work every day.
Hi Mitchell,
You are exactly right. Application and relevancy "sell" course content. Keep up your excitement and your students will continue to benefit.
Gary
Wow!! It's been 21 hours since I saw the class last! Something interesting has happened to someone, and surely it can be related to a previous classroom topic! We are all energized when we see that the classroom subjects ARE APPLICABLE to what we do in the "real world." Looking for application integrates the classroom with the work life.
Hi Victor,
It is exciting to be around people who are motivated and engaged in the learning process. The more we can help this to happen with our students the higher our own energy level is going to be. Good point, thanks for sharing it with us.
Gary
ONE WAY I RECHARGE MY BATTERIES IS FEEDING OFF THE ENERGY OF THE STUDENTS AND EVERY CLASS IS DIFFERENT AND WITH THAT IT IS ALWAYS FRESH AND NEW AND ALSO STEP BACK WITH THAT EXPERIACE AND SHARE IT WITH THE NEXT CLASS
Hi T,
I support your use of midpoint surveys with your students. I use them in my classes and they really help me to get feeling for how the course is going. So by reading student reactions, the midpoint surveys and my own feeling for the course I can make adjustments as needed on proceed as planned. This results in more effective instruction.
Gary
I think it is a good idea to take a midpoint survey not only for the students, but also the instructor. This allows both parties to see if the information being shared is of usefulness to the student. If the instructor can receive positive criticism, then he or she can adjust their teaching methods. This will also give the instructor the opportunity to evaluate new methods for the remainder of the sessions.
Hi Juanita,
Not sure exactly how the students drain the class. If you could give me some additional information I will be glad to share my recommendations with you. Thanks.
Gary
I have two students who drain my class.
How can I allow the class, and myself, to recharge our batteries within the class time so that we all can go home without stress.
Hi Tim,
Good point, thanks for sharing it with us. We do have to keep in mind why we are there and how we can keep our students forward focused as they go through the course.
