Keep focus on student

Let them know you care about each one of them as a person.

Hi Niles,
A great point that instructors need to remember. Remembering the conversation from last week about the sick child shows a caring instructor that connects with his/her students. That place a value on who you are and what you are trying to do for your students.
Gary

Try to greet them by remembering something they said the prior week. For example if one said their child was sick, ask how their child is. It gives that personal touch that you remember.

Hi Sharion,
Like your approach to students. That is what customer service in teaching is all about. If we instructors take this approach then the ownership of success or failure is on the students since we are there supporting them. Keep up the good work.
Gary

I have an extensive customer service background in various industries prior to teaching. One guiding principle that applies to teaching is: "treat each customer as if it were your only one".

That is very true many studens feel that way and fear they will be laughed at.

Getting student excited about learning makes them buy into what your teaching

keep thme envolved and let them know they are important to the class

Motivating student to me is essential to their participation in class. Once students know their point of view is not going to be laugh at they will be more participative.

that motivates them
