Focus
Reminding myself that I was once in there shoes helps me stay focused on the days when it seems hard to deal with them. I leave it at the door! I also let my students know that I was where they are at one point also. So they can do it also...
James,
I can relate to what you are saying because I actually now teach at the same school that I attended. I always use my own personal experiences from attending school here to encourage my students.
Jason,
I like your passion for both your students and your field. You are making a difference in their lives and impacting their futures. This is a serious responsibility for us all to remember each time we meet a class.

I often will think about the students and how hard their home life can be, So that makes me want to have the class exciting and fun. This then encourages them to come back to class and try hard.
Zelda,
Sounds like you have good rapport with your students and this is so important for learning success. In addition you are earning their respect while giving them respect in return. A win win for all of you.

I let my students know that I too feel discouraged at times and that I need them to help me redirect. This gives us a connection and then we work to keep each other energized. My classroom participation is always on point...when I need a boost, they give it, when they need one I am there for them. It works great...never a dull moment.
