Buildin Rapport with students

i always encourage student when they ask question by telling this is really good question,it help to boost them as well as it established rapport.

I use this approach as well. At the end of the day the lab area has to be swept and mopped every day. And I let them know what a great job they have done. And always get a thank you in return.

George,
Good point because if you don't bring passion for your content and enthusiasm about teaching it it for sure the students won't be engaged.

A terrific tactic to be used everyday. A positive response always brings a positive student.

Yaima,
Good point about the value of rapport. It is such an important part of being an effective instructor.

Buildin the rapport with your students is very important because it will help you to motivated them with any kind of topics , they fell free to ask quetion about diferent topics without any problem , they trust on you as a teacher .

Edward,
This is an overlooked value of being a student. Yes, they can be wrong and then learn about what is the correct way to do something and the results are low risk. The more they learn as students under the supervision of an expert (you) the better prepared they will be when they enter the workforce.

I find it also helps to tell students that it is ok to be wrong; I am there to help them understand, and the voicing of a wrong answer provides an opportunity for me to help the student to understand before he or she is tested. I tell them that it is better to be wrong during a Q & A session or lecture than to be wrong on a test or quiz.

Jeri,
This is the way to approach the learning process. We can't know everything nor do our students expect us to so when we don't saying so is appropriate. When we way such we set the stage for the students and we to do research on the question and find the answers. This is a way to integrate learning on numerous levels.

So true, another key to building rapport is installing trust with the students. I believe in being totally honest with them is key; if I don't know an answer to a question I tell them so but let them know I will find the answer for them. I also engage other students, asking them if they have an answer or thoughts on the matter. It shows they also are of value.

Roberta,
I agree with this assessment. Knowing someone cares about them and their success is an important part of motivation.

building rapport is key for student retention I really believe that they dont want to dissapoint their insturctors when a good rapport is set in place,

I have found that the continual flow of positive feedback (when warranted and sincere) will cause even the most quiet student to participate in class discussions.

Jennifer,
This is a part of extended respect. In return for extending the respect you are getting positive outcomes. Good point and one we need to remember as we work with students.

Hi Angie, Great tactic and it is appreciated by students. Our students have lives outside of school and getting positive remarks at school may be the only upside of their day.

I have found that if you give students the opportunity to act responsibly and use good common sense 99% of the time they do. After I see a slip in behavior or the efforts on assignments, a gentle reminder is often all it takes. They will behave like adults if you treast them as such.

At the end of class I always thank my students for participating and doing a great job that day. Letting them know that I notice the hard work that they put into class is rewarding to me as well as them. I always get a thank you in return. Great way to build repport with your students. Just a high five.

I agree with Patricia. Rapport builds the feeling that there is a learning team.

A good rapport is essential when teaching students. If they know they can trust you it will be easy to instruct them because they will know you have their best interests at heart and sincerely want them to succeed in their fields.
