Recognize, Empower, Create

These three words will help any student on their learning journey.A little differ from the Swot (Strength,Weakness,Opportunity,Threats)analysis.Focus attention on material now being presented and how previous learned material in the course can be applied to present material in the course a saying by Alan Watts I find helpful"Normally we do not so much look at things as overlook them".

Julie,
I use a lot of 3X5 cards during a course because I am always seeking input and feedback. My students respect the fact that I am willing to listen to them via the cards. I have found that by having them write down their input or feedback they focus more on what they say. When the feedback is verbal they tend to ramble and don't make as much sense. I think this is good training for them in terms of being able to express themselves when they are out in the workplace.

I liked the 3x5 card idea, we verbalize their accomplishments, but them writing them down confirms to them what they have gained in knowledge.

Pamela,
We need to be able to connect the dots for our students. Many times they do not see the value of our content so we need to give them examples so they can see the connection.

I agree with your statement, if students can not see how classroom theory applies to the workplace they are unable to grasp concepts and transfer knowledge from classroom to practice. This is especially true in health care prefessions, such as nursing, where theory has to translated into practice.

Robert,
I like the quote you shared because it is so true. We need to do everything we can to help our students to make application of the content and see the value and or relevancy of what is being shared and how that impacts their career plans.
