Learnativity
I feel that hands on experience is a great tool for students to really be able to comprehend the material they are trying to learn. For me, as a student, this was one of the best ways for me to make things stick in my brain.
Harold,
Yes it does apply to all learning groups but as you have said sometimes it needs to be reinforced even more with the younger students.

I would think that this would be applicable to all age groups. However, would it be more impactful to younger learners?
Kimberly,
The more we can illustrate such to our students the more they will see value to the course content. This also motivates them to acquire the needed knowledge at a higher level.

Hands on and life exerpience of the instructors help teach the students. It shows them reality of what it is they will be doing and how to handle some situtation they may face.
Kellie,
Students like change of pace and variety. By using the approach you are you are engaging the students while offering them opportunities to learn in their learning preference areas. This results in greater student satisfaction as well as enhanced learning.

I feel that incorporating short, hands on activities during lecture help students in a variety of ways. It gives them a bit of a break from listening which is appealing for most students, but it also allows them the opportunity to immediately put into action the new information they were just taught. In addition it also allows us as instructors to engage not only the visual and auditory learners, but the kinesthetic learners as well!
Ralph,
Yes, it is. Immediate use of newly acquired knowledge is a powerful motivator.

Talking the students into a lab where they get to apply the lesson that was just taught is a great way to reinforce the information. Its like watching a light go on.
It is also this understanding that there are 8 types of intelligence, by doing hands on learning you acknowledging and affirm other ways of thinking that are not traditionally upheld in the academic environment.
ANDREA,
I agree and this is why we need to provide them early and frequent opportunities to make application of their newly acquired knowledge.
