Developing Rapport with International Students

Does anyone have tips for students who desire to develop rapport with a student from another country. I have a student that has had difficulty developing rapport with a student from Europe. As an Instructor, I have tried to pair the students, however, the student from Europe constantly snubs the other student

Thank You.

Travia,
I would start by having a talk with the student from Europe and try to determine why he or she is not interested in developing any kind of relationship with classmates. Also, in the discussion I would outline to that student that in order to be successful in any career that individual is going to have to learn how to work with others. As if that student is willing to work with the other students in small group activities. If that does not work then I would continue to work with the student as best as you can and not let him or her take you out of your game in terms of how you want to teach the course. You are the learning leader so you get to set the rules for how the course is going to operate.
