Empower
I believe that really empowering your students help build their confidence in what they are trying to get out of school. Listing the new skills that they can provide to any employer is what motivates them the do better.
Willy,
I think you will like the results you get from using this strategy. By putting in writing what they have learned your students will need to pause and reflect on what has been covered and how they have made it a part of their career development. This exercise will result in increasing the value of the course in the minds of the students due to the need for reflection and writing it down.

it is very gratifying to have a student say that they have learned a lot in a class or particular subject. I will have to try that method of having them write down what they have learned to solidify in their minds what knowledge they have acquired and confidence they have gained.
Sean,
This is what keeps us coming back to the classroom. We are impacting the lives of our students and helping them capture a vision of what their future can be like if they will put forth the needed effort.

I liked the point of telling students that they will make a difference in their chosen careers or professions. This shows a caring teacher who will affect generations within that individual student's family. "I remember a teacher who did not discount me...one who actually saw me as a person and not a student ID number."
Stanley,
I agree. Empowerment is a great way to increase self confidence and with self confidence comes personal and career growth. The more you can help them in this area the better.
