This is where the human factor comes into play. They need to see that you are a former student yourself and you have gone through what they are going through so you do understand them and their learning needs.

I try to make my students know that I am not different than they are. I tell them my personal experiences when I was a student; how I struggled with concepts and had to go students I thought I was better than to explain procedures. By listening to my story, they would know that I am not a genius and what they are attempting is very doable.
