Motivate Students
I motivate students by involving them in the subject contents in all of the lectures. I also make all of the students get involved and do their own lab assignments.
I agree that the more excited and motivated you are with the subject helps to keep your students excited, motivated and involved with the subject.
I agree with Bob. I like to share with students that there was a time when I fought with retaining the concepts they are trying to learn. I believe there is some value to struggling with the material a little before they reach the point of "Ah-Ha". I think it helps retention.
I know in many cases the things I fought with most I remember best.
Being excited about the topic of what you are teaching makes it very motivating for the student. If I get excited about the subject and show a positive attitude, it makes for a more interesting class for the students.
I agree with you Charlie, the best way I have found to motivate students is to get them involved weather it be hands on or through questioning tecniques.
Hi Bob,
To be real is important when teaching. By sharing with the students these experiences you show them the reality of the career area for which they are training.

I think it is a good idea to include real life examples of one's past failures also. I believe it leaves the perception that your are not above them. It also shows that you are as human as they are & that may be the door that opens some form of communication where an instuctor may learn of a students personal issues that may lead to their leaving school.
Hi Leonardo,
Real life examples help to make the content relevant and useable. The more of examples you can use the better the understanding will be.

That is a great idia to make yours student interesting in the subject of the class.
During some of my lectures, I use real life examples as well. It start getting the class more invoved and ask questions so they better understand some of the do and dont's of certain things. It also gets them thinking as a lot of time turns lecture into a fun Q&A session that helps develop thier learning.
I like to give them real life examples about the topic of the day. Examples of things going well and things going bad. I also like to put them in scenarios and ask them to figure out what to do.
Hi Brian,
Respect and rapport are two critical elements of teaching success. Earning student respect helps with class management and rapport develops identification on the part of students with you and the course content. Keep up the good work.
Gary
I think keeping the student engaged it crucial to the learning process and for student retention.
