Motivation through personal experiences
My students ALWAYS seem motivated to learn a topic when they, or one of their classmates relates a personal experience or anecdote related to the topic we are learning.
Personal experiences seem to truly motivate students and hold their interest. They have read the texts, but now they are getting real-life examples and it is exciting to them.
I agree. My students seem to become more interested when they feel involved in the teaching by relating their experiences.
Clevatrice,
Students really like to see how the content that is being offered has application to their lives. You are doing that through your connecting of their previous experience with information that is being offered. It is a win win for everyone.

I agree! My students are motivated more if they can use their life experiences to add to the discussion. In other words, I often talk about my experiences in certain areas to help engage the students in the discussion. I find that the students are motivated when they can relate to the discussion in a personal way, more so than when the topic is some vague notion that is not exciting or relevant to their experiences or knowledge.
