Motivating
Everyone wants to be validated and know they matter. motivation gives them that extra push to continue
Sandra,
People are people and no matter their age they like recognition. So if stars work go for it. I use food a lot as well. We have fun, work hard and enjoy rewards at times.

We have also used colored stars to get students to pitch in and help one another in a clinical setting rather than it being every student for themselves. Needless to say there are always plenty of students helping each other out at the end of the day, even on Fridays!
Yvette,
It is amazing that something as simple as a star can motivate students to do more. The recognition is a wonderful way to demonstrate to themselves and others their dedication to being a student.

I agree that motivation makes them persevere. At my school we give out stars for perfect attendance. We also give out stars for grades. If they receive an A they get a blue star and if they receive a B they get a green star. Again students are very competitive and they want to be the one that is handed a star and congratulated every term.
i agree with you nicole. motivation is what makes them perservere. i know it did it for me.
