Motivation

Talking to your students about your personal experience in the field, explaining how you became an instructor, learning new things about your career will open doors to your new career

I agree with Lorena that sharing not only motivates but helps to build rapport. Students love to hear personal stories, successes as well as failures. I think it helps them understand that we are all human!

I like your comment! The majority of my field is hands-on and relating past experience I had really interests the students. It gives them a more realistic insight of what to expect when they start working.

Ana-Maria,
They do like stories told by their instructors. These stories help you to illustrate the value of the content you are teaching them as well as they help to show the students you have been where they are and that you field experience to bring to the classroom.

Students always love to hear my personal experiences in the field. It does not only show them how important the information we teach is, but also how it relates to real life work situations and ultimately motivates them to succeed.

Stacy,
Keep up the sharing. Stories from the field help to reinforce the content and gives value to what they are learning. In addition, the stories serve as motivators because the students start to see themselves in the same situations that the stories are being told about.

Marilyn,
Stories make the content come alive. They also show the students some of the realistic aspects of the career area they are preparing to enter. They are a valuable teaching tool.

By combining real world/life experiances with your students they can relate better due to similar experiances

I agree. I love talking about working in the field. Every time, I teach a lesson I tell them why this will be important when they are out working. Students love it and it gets them excited about completing the program and graduating.

I agree and it also sets the stage for being a professional health care provider image for my students. they love the stories about real life experiences.

Lorena,
Students love stories like this as you know because they help to make the course content come alive. In addition, they help the students to see the relevancy of what they are being taught in relation to their career goals.

I agree and I find that in sharing it not only motivates but it helps build a rapport. I like to share stories of how I didn't know xyz and how i felt...and that's why we're not going to learn xyz.

Maria,
Students like to hear stories from the field. These stories help to motivate and excite students about what they are learning and how they will fit into the field they are preparing to enter.
