Motivating Your Students

encouragement

I try to find individual students interests and key up ideas and anologies for deeper unstanding of concepts.

I make sure to always offer positive feedback and if I have to provide negative feedback I make sure it is done in a positive way. I also make sure the students understand the content together as a whole before moving on without holding those that learn quickly up. Making sure that I meet my students expectations, by always making sure to put a smile on their face. I may not be able to please 100% everyday, but as long as I make sure to follow up with them and make sure to show empathy they normally come around and eventually that "frown is turned upside down"

Ralph,
Good way to bring the human factor into the classroom and get the students settled and comfortable. This way they know they have your support if they are willing to put forth the needed effort to be successful.

Getting to know our students is literally one of the first thing we do after we meet them. On their first day of orientation, after I have introduced myself to them, I like to talk to each one of them individually to get to know as much as I can about them and I like to use that information throughout their time in my class to motivate them. I also like that it helps to introduce them to the other new students and helps to make them more comfortable.

I like to talk to my students to find out what their interests are and why they are pursuing this career and try to motive them to what a good choice their have made with my past experience.

Chad,
This is one of the things I really enjoy about teaching. Getting to know students and helping them move closer to their career goals. Informal chats go a long way in establishing rapport with them as well as impacting their lives.

I find that simply speaking with them and finding out what motivates them will help in encouraging them in class. I try to visit with my students during break time or lab time to help explain or motivate them within the course subject.

MaryAnn,
Great set of words to be used in helping our students to become engaged in the learning process.
