Introduce yourself
I always introduce myself to my class, with my background and some of my personal info. I believe that this gives the students an oportunity to see that we are also human and in some cases alot like our students.
Hi Annie,
Talk about an eye opener. I can only imagine the surprise on the faces of the students when they see that list of over 50 options available to them. This should give them a clear picture of their potential if they are willing to invest the effort.

I start by introducing myself and discussing my professional background. Letting the students know that I have been exactly where they are and still remember what it is like helps to put them at ease. At the same time, it gives them that extra boost of confidence that YES! they can do what they are going to school for, they can be successful in so many ways with 1 single degree. We also talk about all the places we can go/work etc with the degree they are pursuing. It is pretty fantastic to list 50+ options on the board that the students come up with, and it lets them see they won't be pigeon-holed into a 'traditional' job...they can do anything they put their minds to. AND I TELL THEM THAT!
I agree that a self intro is important. It also helps relax the students, if you give them a few moments to introduce themselves to you and each other. And it's a good start to learning the students name and background
i agree a great self info goes to show that your are human and helps you relate to students.
