we should share our pernsonel tricks of the trade with our students only if they understand the proper techinque and methods of the topic which we are teaching. i do agree there is always a way too help with the final compitence of the item.

Allowing my students to work in groups lets them share and build off of each others tricks...and then I add mine at the end of the day...

Good plan. This way your students will leave with a large number of "tricks of the trade" that they can use when they leave school.
