Positive feedback
How do you provide positive feedback on assignments without repeating yourself with "good job" or "well done"?
I've been working on my positive feedback. When my children were younger I learned that with it, they would try even harder. Without it they quickly lost interest. Now I just have to modify it to adult level.
I second that, student appreciate feedback especially once they know that they are on the right track. It allows students to ask questions and engage in increasing their learning process.
Hi Johnny you really did a great job in relating (topic) to a real life situation.
I agree, picking one element to comment on helps with student confidence. Rather than giving an overall statement, they enjoy hearing something that is particular to their work. It makes them feel they have accomplished something the other students have not. Also, if I notice there is a common factor between different student's work, I will tell them as a class they did well on that portion.
Hi Catherine,
It is hard not to be too repetitive in comments, and with large numbers of students you will be. What I try to do is to pick at least one thing from each student's project, paper or report and comment on it. This customizes my remarks to that student and lets him/her know that I have spent time reviewing and evaluating their work.
