Team projects
I use teams to work out solutions to problems relating to class topics. I give a hypothetical problem to the class break up into small teams. Each team is assigned a leader to direct the work. At the end of 10-15 minutes we regroup and discuss solutions to the problem. This method gives ownership to the students of part of the class.
Team projects are great because it allows the students an opportunity to learn from their peers and help them to step outside their comfort zones. Team projects also help to create a more inclusive space for student learning.
Team projects is an effective method in my class. Students increase their knowledge and related its application when working in a team project. Teamwork is important in any job. Team effor create better solutions to the job or project.

I also use teams. I found that smaller teams (2-3) are more effective because of the feedback I have received. Students frequently said that if the team is too large, the team has a hard time focusing on the topic and are easily sidetracked with irrelevant conversations and issues.
I teach online and have a dissertation focused on this topic. All virtual team projects should focus on collaboration. Members of the team need individual feedback. I am collaborating on a web-based assessment of characteristics for successful performance in virtual collaboration.
I also use teams in my classroom. Except I don't assign a leader. Usually 1 or 2 students start off with different ideas and the others join in. I have also found that it's not the same students starting off the discussions. It seems to ease the tension in class.
Hi Dennis,
I use this method as well in a lot of my teaching. You are right about how the students become invested in the class and the process when they have input in the outcome and/or solution. This is a great way to showing your students application and relevancy to what is being learned.
