Good post. But at what point do you decide to discontinue your efforts?

I agree. When going over assignments in class, I do not let the students that have missed the previous class "off the hook" on answering the questions and or discussion. I think this lets them know that even when they miss class they are still a part of the class and are expected to complete the work assignments.
