One of the ways that we help build retention is through classroom competition. The class that has the highest attendance rating for the month will get a pizza party.

Right you are about this method. In addition, they are developing their individual research skills that they will be using later on when they are in the field. They need to know how to reach out and find resources when they are working if they are going to stay current.

One of the tings that I like to do in class is give assignments that have the student to research certain information on a topic that we are lecturing over in class and then have the students teach the information. What this does is it gives the students an new way of learning the information from their peers and it gives them a new way of learning how to study the information on their own.
