The human factor is important in all aspects of life. Teaching by example how to perfect "people skills" may be the most important thing students can learn from you.
As an instructor I have found that we have to listen as much as we teach and we need to provide a nurturing enviornment where people feel that they are safe and respected. The human factor is such an important part of education at any level, whether it be elementary school or college.
No instructor is going to be successful if they only view their students as 'subjects' not human beings with needs and issues of their own. I feel as if I should receive an honorary degree in counseling because of the human issues I deal with every day.
