EXCITEMENT

Make the student excited about coming to class everyday.

Gustavo,
Good way to set up your instructional format. This blend is what will keep the students interested in the course and enjoying learning the content.

A strategy that always works is to create a class environment where the students feel no fear at all of making mistakes, but on the contrary, they see the class as a fun game to play, becoming very passionate about the learning process.

Elizabeth,
Nothing wrong with a little crazy and excitement about one's field. It helps to "sell" the knowledge and skills that need to be acquired plus it helps to keep the students engaged. "Go for it!"
Gary

I'm conviced my students think I am crazy because I get so excited about so many things we do. However, I find that in staying excited about every product, I can pass on at least some of my enthusiasm and they tend to be more open to really learning the material.
I also find that informing the students on HOW they can use one thing in so many ways out in the industry (I teach pastry...) it helps them to connect the dots as it were and become more comfortable doing things several times.

If you make it seem as though you enjoy performing certain tasks it will make the students excited about those tasks as well.

Create assignments that the students enjoy to do but just remember you will not be able to please everyone.

I agree! I often leave the students with, "Wait til you see what we do in the next class."
