Retention
It seems that one part overlooked and/or given little attendance is the idea of ethical behavior and retention. When do we cross an ethical boundary when keeping students in the program or school?
School should create team activity, like sport or music group. This will help retention, team members help each other when needed.
Crystal,
I understand your concern. Hopefully this doesn't catch too many students that are really trying. On the other hand this policy helps them to understand they have to be prompt and there in the work world so they need to develop discipline to be such now.

At the college that I Instruct at a student can only miss 20% of the class. If they miss more than the 20% they are automatically dropped from the course. These are not my rules, they are my colleges. It is hard to see a student removed that was really trying but it is policy.
Nathan,
This is a question that the instructor and the college have to agree on the answer or there will be issues. If a student will not put forth the effort both in work and attendance then the instructor should have the right to remove that student from the class. To carry such a student just to keep the retention level up is unfair to everyone, including other students and the profession.
