Encouragement
I have found by being enthusiastic and pointing out small but positive progress and letting them know how for they have come gives them a real since of worth.
I have to agree with you it is very important to the student that we encourage them and let them know how far that they have come. This can make a huge difference in their learning.
This is so true to all students even if they are not sure if this is what they want to do.

Right you are. This is one of the reasons I am a teacher. I really enjoy engaging the students while helping them to have fun and realize that learning can be accomplished in a number of different ways, if they are willing to put forth the effort.

You can`t hide enthusiasm, it is most often contagious. The students will soon be energized by an enthusiastic instructor. However the opposite can be said about the opposite style....
