Keep it simple, make it fun (when possible)
I like the idea of incorporating difft teaching strategies to break up the monotony of the same old grind. I feel that this could also lead to increase in ability to retain info.
Stacy,
Sounds like a fast paced and engaging class. This is a formula for student success. Keep up the good work as I know you are impacting the lives of your students with these methods.

In my class, we use a lot of different active learning styles to keep the students interested. We play games, brainstorm together, have the students teach a small subject, role play, demonstrations with computers and have the students follow on their computer. After class I always review how the activity went and see how much I think they really learned and will retain.
Patricia,
I really like devices like this because the students like doing them and they are effective learning tools. Thanks for sharing this idea with us.

I also have students put info on flash cards and then we quiz each other. Not only do they get to do question and answer they also have fun and also learn and prepare for their test
Roxzelda,
My students love to play games. We use them a lot for review and they really help with content retention. Not to mention they are fun. Keep playing the games.

We play games such as jeopardy, and mixing and matching for medical terminology and their prizes are candy. Also our computer lab is equipped with games for keyboarding. we incorporate all of these into our classes to make them more enjoyable.
Cathryn,
Your comments made me smile because I am convinced that adults are nothing more than tall children. My students that range in age from 21 through 60 will do almost anything to earn a piece of candy when we are playing the review game. It is fun, fast paced and engaging so everyone buys into the review and works hard to earn that piece of candy.

I like playing a review game at the end of each class. Right answers get a piece of candy. It helps the students keep the material fresh in their minds and gives them an additional reason to remember it. Plus it gives them a chance to put the information in their own words.
