Student retention relies and dedication rely on a cohesive faculty

I think students have a tendency to do their work and participate. When it comes to meeting deadlines if all teachers don't hold students to their deadlines other teachers may bare the brunt of unprepared students. In the film and television industry not meeting deadlines gets you fired and that can be interpreted into a classroom setting. I think a lack of retention of knowledge can be related to not meeting deadlines. Thoughts?

Sean,
I agree that within your program, you should decide as faculty to make sure to be uniform in setting and enforcing deadlines. I do think that no matter how fun the assignment may be, a deadline is necessary and most students will be appreciative of the structure and ability to plan their schedules both inside and outside of school when assignments have deadlines. All of the teachers should try to periodically meet to ensure all are on the same page.

In the nursing field, there are so many various employment opportunities that deadlines will be set in a multitude of forms. I believe, just like any other job, that some employers will be lax about rules and regulations, including deadlines. But in my opinion, a PROFESSIONAL should always act in the most prudent, efficient, and ethical manner. By teaching our students these practices in school, they are more likely to act in that professional manner no matter where they are employed, which will only add to their success in their careers.

Thanks!
Amy
