Adult Students and teaching Methods
In my experience as a instructor, adult students do well in classes that they can relate to and can incorporate into they everyday life
Donna,
The majority of adult students are there for a specific outcome and that is to receive and education that will enable them to retain or expand their career development. They are focused and dedicated to being students and growing in their knowledge. I like having them mixed in with my recent high school graduates because they help my youngsters to see the value of the education they are receiving.

Adult students have learned how important school is to them now as when they were younger, didn't think so.
Michael,
This is a good point about adult learners. They do need to be able to use their life experiences to make a connection to the course content. The more they are able to do this the more confidence they build in terms of their realizing that they can be successful in the course.

Adult learner bring a lot of information to the class. They need time during the class to be able to add their information and experience to the class discussion on a regular basis as this helps bring purpose to their learning and helps other student learn from their peers.
adult students tend to get frustrated faster yet they stick with it longer until hopefully they succeed. they realize how much it will help them faster.
Felicia,
This is true. Adult learners need to be able to "connect the dots" in their minds in terms of how the course content is helping them to move closer to their career goals. The more they see this the greater their motivation will be.
