Feedback

I have found that student really do appreicated feedback both positive and negative. Therefore, on their assignments that I hand back I always write some type of comment, thus giving them daily feedback.

DOUNIADEH,
You have a very good model in place to support the learning efforts of your students. Each step they take they can see how they have expanded their knowledge and skills. This really helps them in both their professional and personal growth.

As a VN clinical instructor, I always give my students feedback after performing every skill on a patient. If there was something that they performed poorly I bring it to their attention by having them review the process and being able to verbalize the part that they need improvement on . In most of the cases, they know what part of the skill they performed poorly. I let them participate in giving a feedback of performance themselves before I even say anything. Moreover, I always point out the strong areas of performance and how well they perform a task. I really want my students to be confident about their performance. Giving positive feedback through a clinical day helps my students build their confident and be professional VNs.

Renee,
Targeted feedback like this is the most valuable because the students can see exactly where they need to improve. This enhances their growth in the course and confidence in their abilities.

Feedback should be submitted on measurable results and attaining goals. Most students can then reflect upon the feedback when its centered around results.

Ashley,

I totally agree. I spend a lot of time writing comments when I grade assignments. While it's frustrating when some students clearly don't read them, I know it is important for many of my students. I try very hard to start with a compliment/positive feedback, then include areas they can improve on, and then I always try to end on a positive note.
