Motivation

I am amazed at how well students respond to positive appreciation, like "great Job John" or "Thank-You for helping me with that project." Our students are craving positive feedback! Let's offer it to them.

Agreed. A form of motivation incentive goes a long way with students. It increases their ability to do well in addition to increases their participation in the classroom.

As silly as it sounds, even adult leaners appreciate a smiley face on the paper when they do something well. I use it, and very often receive a smile back after they see it.

I agree that positive appreciation and a positive attitude will give you greater sucess in the classroom or lab.

I also give my students positive feedback. I try to make it a point to give the struggling student as much positive encouragement as possible without going overboard.

I make sure I use positive appreciation on a daily baises. Helps a lot.

I have also seen the same positive results. Just by telling a student that is struggling that he did very good with a lab task or that you are pleased with his last test results seems to really help with confidence levels.

I agree. At every opportunity I give positive feedback to my students. A simple "great job" will go a long way with students.

I agree always staying postive with the students is a great motivator.my class mato is one neagative equals another negative,I try to keep teamwork & postive attitudes at all times.

Scott, negative messages are unfortunately the more common. By providing the positive messages you allow students to hear the less communicated message and thus it stands out. Thanks for focusing on the positive.

i agree. you have to be positive with the students and encourage them. if you don't, they won't build up the confidence they need to succeed.
